Can anyone tell me if I can send some of my wife’s ashes to Cleveland, to her sister? She wants to scatter them around a tree in her backyard – is it legal to mail ashes, or do I have to send them through UPS?

Hi, Jason. Yes, you can mail your wife’s ashes to her sister.
I mailed some of my wife’s ashes to locations around the country where relatives wanted to scatter them: her favorite places in Michigan (where she was born), the coast of Florida – even to Hawaii! You need to send them registered mail, and check with your local post office for packing directions. |

Sorry Jason. I don't use these forum things much, and put my name in the title. It should have said "From Frank". Stupid me.

It was fun! One of my friends from college passed away, and I mailed small baggies of ashes to all members in our circle of friends. Her ashes were distributed in places loved by each - and we shared the experiences in email messages. Even pictures!
